Movie
'Hush 2: end the silence'
Laranzo Dacres,Youthlink Writer

A litany of emotions was displayed at the premiere of the Barbadian sequel Hush 2: End The Silence. This is a must-see, as it highlights many social issues facing Caribbean youths.

The film deals with issues of sexual abuse, drugs and violence affecting Caribbean youth. It also looks at how young people deal with these issues and encourages them to end the silence and seek healing.

"This is a movie that is real ... you will experience all types of emotions, from laughter to anger. It's very entertaining and life changing," said Marcia Weekes, writer and producer of the film. "The aim of the movie is to encourage people to move to action and do something about the issues facing the youths."

Weekes along with her husband, Dave Weekes - executive producer of the movie - and three members of the cast: Lesley Cumberbatch, Claudette Wadman and Nichola MacDonald, mingled with guests, and representatives from local sponsors, Jamaica Broilers Group and National Commercial Bank.

The movie, which was released islandwide on March 3 and started screening at select high schools on March 5, seeks to raise awareness of social issues that plague youth.

The premiere was presented through the Student Christian Fellowship and Scripture Union (SCFSU) in partnership with Step By Step Productions, a Barbados-based film company. Hush has already been shown in 21 of 22 high schools in Barbados and has received an award at an American film festival.

'HUSH 2: End The Silence' gives a rare glimpse into the life of a struggling teenager, Mikisha.
