Turbo-injected
thriller power-slides at carib's premiere

When
an unstoppable bald force (Vin Diesel)
meets an immovable bald object (Dwayne
'The Rock' Johnson), the result is
Fast Five, and since art imitates
life, and vice versa, people are always
craving the next big thing being featured,
whether in song or film.
Similar
to the 2001 release of The Fast
and the Furious, when car lovers
worldwide gathered to experience a
phenomenon which previous car films
had only hinted at, 10 years and four
sequels later, inspiration and fascination
with the 'fast and furious' franchise
continue to grow, and 'resellers'
gathered at the Carib theatre on April
27 to fervently use the premiere of
Fast Five as a platform to ignite
new sparks for octane-addled car fanatics.
"This
being our fifth showcasing of cars
and accessories is really intentional,
because it's a great medium to display
what our company has in store, and
the great possibilities a car can
have," noted Paul Cole, managing
director of King Midas.
"Back
when the franchise started, underglow
lights and NOS (Nitrous Oxide Systems)
sales skyrocketed to a whopping 500
per cent. So, basically, we used this
occasion of the premiere to introduce
equipment and technologies we have
and, of course, to meet and greet
existing and new clients," Cole
added.
The
Movie
The
joy ride in Fast Five appears
to shift somewhat from its original
manuscript. "This is a must-watch
film for the summer, but seeing that
this is the fourth sequel, it's as
though it's more about the action
and thrill than that of a high-end
car movie," stated a rather disappoint
Cole. However, he continued, "The
film suggests another chapter in the
making and we'll be present to enjoy
the ride once again."
Family
the underlying theme
Family
is at the centre of the action-packed
film, though it may not be the first
thing that comes to mind based on
the trailer. It's not just the first-class
speed chases or the collage of international
beauties that have given the Fast
and Furious films their longevity,
but the idea of family as the underlying
theme around which this franchise
has built itself.
Action
writers Gary Scott Thompson and Chris
Morgan have created the ultimate heist
film incorporating the elements of
intelligence from Ocean's Eleven,
the action scenes from The Expendables,
a more testosterone-pumped version
of The Italian Job, and a car-chase
scene that is comparable to none.
The
thriller, action-packed film allows
its audience to be taken away to masterful
city shots, concurrently keeping an
even and fun pace that keeps you cheering
and ducking along with the action.
Kicking off with a high-speed prison
bus breakout and culminating in a
see-it-to-believe-it chase, with two
cars dragging a giant safe through
the streets of Rio, Fast Five
never takes its foot off the pedal.
Overall,
it is the perfect way to open the
summer and the end is just incomplete
enough to hint at another installment
shooting down the birth canal. If
you liked Vanishing Point, Death
Race and Gone In 60 Seconds,
you'll definitely love this.
