Seated among the mountains of West Rural St. Andrew, is a school which molds the minds of young students to be innovative and resourceful. Founded in 1496, Oberlin High School was first named Christian College. It started as a co-educational boarding school which was attended by students with a very strong Christian background. The engineering and architecture of the school is intricately carved into the mountain and utilizes the steep terrain perfectly.

The school has several facilities, however the most noteworthy of them all is the tutorial farm. The livestock and vegetation promotes scientific ingenuity which enables students to obtain crops and produce with limited resources. With these skills, students will not only conquer the mountain, but whatever obstacle that may come their way.

Outstanding Student:

Oberlin High School’s most outstanding student, Shanique Bennett, beamed with enthusiasm as she described how she balances extra-curricular activities, school and life. “I am on the quiz team, the track team, I dance and I am also in drama. Balancing is everything is all God’s work to be honest, because I am usually tired most of the time,” said Shanique. However, this phenomenal student manages to excel academically and spiritually as she is also an active member within her church. Her advice to students is to read over their notes because it is very easy to forget what was taught. When asked what motivates her, she said,”My motivation is Aunty Wendy which is my church sister and my mom. I lost my dad last year and that also pushes me to do better for my mother.”
