with camir ricketts
Natasha Stewart,Youthlink Writer
In
pursuit of excellence at Herbert Morrison
Technical High School, sixth-form student
Camir Ricketts excels in both academic and
extra-curricular activities. Despite his
numerous achievements, the humble 16-year-old
credits the support of his family for his
continued success. Considering his additional
involvement in social clubs and sports at
school, Western Link just had to find out
more about this motivated, determined young
man.
Western
Link: Who is Camir Ricketts?
Camir
Ricketts: A young man with good
morals, determination, confidence and integrity,
who is guided by a philosophy which reminds
him to aim for the sky.
What
have been some of your academic achievements
so far?
It
started from GSAT. I passed for Herbert
Morrison (my first choice). Throughout the
five years, I maintained an above-85 per
cent average. I have eight distinctions
and one credit at CXC, and also a credit
in CAPE math. I am currently a member of
the Generating Genius club, which is a science
programme at the University of the West
Indies, Mona. Currently, I am pursuing an
associate's degree at the Caribbean Institute
of Technology in Montego Bay. I am also
a member of the Tourism Action Club, Chess
Club and I am involved in cricket at Hebert
Morrison. I am also the school's deputy
head boy.
How
have you managed to balance your schoolwork
with extra-curricular activities?
Well,
it definitely is a lot of hard work. Even
though time management is one of the problems
I face, I know that, in order to succeed,
I have to get back on track and get my work
done. I play a lot of video games, go to
the movies and socialise with everyone.
What
kind of plans do you have for the future?
I
plan to pursue a career in the field of
microbiology and attend the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology in the United States.
